We had another handheld for years, but it did not compare to this in either magnification power, image clarity, ease of use or sturdiness. My son spends ours examining magazine pictures, plants, fabrics, surfaces... whatever he can think of. He was busy with a new Video Game so his mom and aunt took over. Before the day was over, they both said I should have bought more than one. They passed it back and forth for over an hour. When the 'scope first arrived, I, too, felt it was a waste of money, but kept messing around with it until I found how great it really is. I may be ordering more for the older "kids".
