This is the best kit I have ever paid for and for a cheap price but such expensive chemicals. If you buy this kit you'll have so much fun that, well, I can't explain it. Just buy it! Its the best, once again. - Saturday, May 19, 2007Truly "cool" light Reviewed By: Vladimir Dvornychenko (Rockville, Maryland) This really IS a fascinating kit ... and a very reasonably priced one too. As a boy ... many years ago ... I stumbled upon an ad for a similar product, saved my dimes, and was finally able to buy it. I spent many enchanted hours. But when the chemicals were exhausted, I was unable to buy refills. The chemicals here are similar ... but not identical ... to those in glow sticks. In fact, I wonder if the prevalence of glow sticks does not take some of the magic away. The scientific explanation for the emission of “cold light” is a little bit complicated, and involves free-radicals and excited states. (By the way, free-radicals should be treated with respect.) Luminol, found in this kit, is the basis of a sensitive test for blood, and is used in forensic science. |
