Frog was enormous and lived for 13 years
Reviewed By: H.W. (Plano, Tx)
I got a Grow-A-Frog kit that looked exactly like this when I was in middle school. The tadpole was great, and a lot of fun! Just a warning, though... she got enormous and had to be moved to a 60 gallon tank. She also just wouldn't die. She lived for 13 years. Before you think of getting one of these for your kids, consider how you will feel if you've married off your kids and still have this silly frog. That's what happened to my parents!

Nightmare
Reviewed By: Julie (Springfield, MA)
I first saw the frogs at a friends and commented that they were adorable and the next thing ya know I got a couple as a gift that I did not request. I thought they were a lot of work since their water got so dirty so quickly and had to be changed very frequently. Also, I had to send away for the food, you cannot just buy any frog food at your local pet store. Last but not least after several months of this I decided to send them back and the post office wouldn't let me mail them because of certain regulations, so I am now stuck with them unless I can find a rescue to take them. Unless you LOVE frogs and willing to take care of them for the next 20 years, I think it is a big mistake. Other than that, I think they are cute and goofy.

aw... childhood memories

I had two of these guys as a kid... Toby, and Cody (?)... can't quite remember. Anyway, what fun they were for a while, even if the whole laboratory-bred frog thing is a little creepy. Anyways, maybe some genetic improvements have been made in the past 20 years, but my frogs were super poopers... seriously! They seemed to evacuate constantly. No matter how often I cleaned the water, it was always dirty and and smelled. I once took them to a friend's house when we went on family vacation... she was not happy when we got back. ;)

First time froggers
Reviewed By: Christy (Twin Falls, Idaho)
I purchased a 'Grow a Frog' for my daughters 6th birthday. We finally figured out that you have to send away for the frog and got a tadpole in the mail about a week later. This is a tough little bugger, let me tell you. It has been knocked off of the dresser twice, by the cats and lost it's water both time. They can live up to two days without water, but not much longer. I have read that if taken care of the frog, it can live 8 to 30 years. I had no idea at the time of purchase, about the life span or I would have thought twice. But I have done some research and found that I can put the frog in our tank with the other fish when it is bigger. They may try to bite at the fish. They can eat bloodworms, brine shrimp or water fleas and pet stores carry this food. Good luck with your new pet. You will be spending a lifetime together!

cool frogs
Reviewed By: Valerie (Stewartsville, new jersey)
I first purchased a grow a frog kit when my daughter was in the first grade. I was sent a tad pole. Well "Lilly" had a little accident down my kitchen sink, since they were guarnteeded I sent away for anoher one. A couple of days later a very small frogglet was at mydoor. I really wanted a tadpole so I could show my children how it would grow. I sent another certificate in the mail and received a tadpold. They saild they had sent the the froglet because it was very warm that time of year and it was safer to sent the froglet than the tadpole. Anyway I now had both to care for. After the tadpole grew into a frog and was large enough, put the two together in a tank. I was afraid the big one would eat the little one. He was big enouh and all was fine. Well....my daughter is now 18 and a freshman in college and I still have these frogs!! I only feed the reptomin and keep their water level half full. They like to stand and keep thier faces out of the water. They are very cool!!! I have a filter but they are very dirty and smelly. I love them.
