Ecosphere

The World's First Totally Enclosed Ecosystem

These EcoSpheres are self-sustaining ecosystems that contain active micro-organisms, bright red shrimp and algae living together in a balanced environment of filtered sea water.

The EcoSpheres were created using technology developed by scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Their research involved developing self-contained communities in which space explorers can live during long-term space flights. This technology has been applied to these ecospheres, making it very easy to care for.

Self-sustained Brine Shrimp within EcoSphere Due to the fact that these miniature worlds are self-sustaining, caring for your EcoSphere is simple. All you need to do is provide your EcoSphere with a source of indirect natural or artificial light and the rest takes care of itself. No feedings or cleanings are necessary!

EcoSpheres are intriguing and would make a great to any room or classroom. EcoSpheres come in various sized sphere or pod shapes.

Interesting product

Buyer should be aware that this product has a 2 year life-span on average. I gave it 4 stars because the idea of a self-sustaining eco-system is fascinating. I only wish it could last longer. Excerpt from the eco-sphere[dot]com website: EcoSpheres have an average life expectancy of two years. However

Our Ecosphere
Reviewed By: Candace Hibbard Lillie (Eucha, Oklahoma)
Our Ecosphere is fifteen years old, and the two brine shrimp have lived through power outages in the dead of winter and hot summers. It has been moved from one state to another. It has resided in the room of a little boy who turned into a teenager and is now away at college. The little shrimp serenely continue eating the algae and swimming around. They have grown ever so slightly and are nearing half an inch long now. The water has declined just a little but the Sphere is still sealed and tight, and living.

Better than Sea Monkeys!
Reviewed By: Michelle (Freedom, Pennsylvania)
We had one of these for about 6yrs before it met an unfortunate end due to our children. (We had the Sphere before the kids)... Very easy to care for, just place in enough sunlight, not too much. Its so much fun to watch the shrimp swim and eat. Even if there where no shrimp in it, its still beautiful. Just keep young kids away from it. BTW, some people think they are snow globes and shake them before you can stop them. We lost a couple of shrimps this way. :(
