General Notes

I ordered and received the 18" reflector in good condition. At first I was a little disappointed with the finish, but there must be a coating of some sort on the metal from the manufacturing process. Once I cleaned and polished it with windex the sheen was close to that shown int the advertisment. Not a perfect mirror but still very good. Regarding a previous coment about focal length - The dish depth and focal length are approximately the same (4.5 inches for the 18" dish). I needed to find the exact focus of the dish to know where to mount mymicrophone. I mounted a PVC tube in the center of the dish and then used a laser pointer and level to diredt the laser beam parallell to the tube. the beam was reflected onto the center tube approximately 4.5 inches up from the base (as advertised). This is where I mounted the microphone and it works great.

Nice reflector. I have the 18".
Regarding a previous comment on the finish ... "more of a matte" ... yes, as it came out of the box but a quick wash & dry and it became quite reflective as the photo shows.

Ok for acoustics

I've used several of these, 18" and 24", for parabolic mics, and they work pretty well. One 24" unit arrived warped, which I believe occurred in shipping (the packaging wasn't very robust), and custormer service has a replacement on the way after one phone call, didn't have to send back the defective unit.
No, its not for use as an optical reflector, but for acoustics or solar collecting, they are fine.
