Fair Review of Excellent Educational Toy
Reviewed By:

I had homemade ant farms as a kid, using discarded panes of glass, wood stripping, tape and of course dirt. Antworks is a far superior version, and I wish they had been available back then!
As far as the so-called cruelty factor, the negative reviewers aren't being reasonable. Unless they're refusing to eat anything that was once alive (including plants), and sparing the living bacteria on their bodies by never washing, then they have no right in attempting to make children feel bad for the displacement of a few wild ants.

Cruel gift

This is a cruel thing. Ants are supposed to live in a much larger colony. These ants are taken away from their large family and placed in this fascinating but stressful setting. Ants can live in this thing about 2 to 4 month, then they die. If you set them free, they cannot just go and join some other family, they will die outside the box. Of course, most of us don't give a dime for a few little ants, but cruelty and torturing animals is not something I want my kids to learn.

Cruel

The ants are really active at first but once they've dug a few tunnels they just hang out in groups acting dazed and confused! They have spent the last 2 months desperately trying to get out at the top near the air holes. My 7 year old put it well. "Lots of people don't see animals the way we do. They see them as entertainment not important like humans." I suppose because of this, it HAS taught my kids an important lesson -- the hard way.
