Looks painted on

I bought this as a going away gift for a co-worker. I am disappointed with the stone they sent. The base is not very flat and it does not stand up on it' own. I will have to find a stand to hold it before I give it as a gift. The flower looks like it was painted on with white paint and it is hard to tell if it is real or not.
