Edmund's Minerals
Pyrite is named for the Greek word for fire, Pyr, as it produces sparks when struck with steel. It is often difficult to tell gold from pyrite because they are so similar in appearance, hence pyrite's more common name "Fool's Gold."
Pyrite occurs in many different kinds of rocks, and its form ranges from massive to sharp edged crystals. One of the most striking forms is the crystal cube. The ancient Chinese earth symbol, a golden cube, was said to have been derived from pyrite.
These amazing cubic crystals come from a unique locality in Spain where they are mined and carefully prepared to display these true wonders of the mineral world.
The crystal is displayed in its natural rock matrix averaging 2" x 2" in size, and each includes an acrylic display stand.
Please Note: The image shows two cubes, the actual specimen only has one cube.
