One-Of-A-Kind Minerals
Hematite is a common iron oxide mineral that has several varieties, each with its own unique name.
Kidney Ore is a massive botryoidal form that gives the appearance of lumpy "kidney-like" masses.
Hematite gets its name from hema, the Greek word for blood, as in hemoglobin, because of the red color of its powder. Hematite was once used to prevent bleeding, and warriors in Roman times used the mineral as protection during battle.
These lustrous polished samples from Morocco average 2" x 3" in size and show typical botryoidal form. Each includes its own acrylic display stand.
