Halite is the mineral form of sodium chloride, NaCl, commonly known as rock salt. The mineral is typically colorless to yellow, but may be also light blue, dark blue, or pink. Halite occurs in vast lakes of sedimentary evaporate minerals that result from the drying up of enclosed lakebeds and seas.

These natural salt crystal deposits are mined underground in Pakistan. When mining this material, explosives are strictly prohibited to preserve the structure of the crystals. Each lamp is carefully crafted by hand to retain the beautiful, natural shape of the rock. The result is a unique piece---no two are ever the same---varying in size and shape.

Each lamp exhibits a rough, natural outer surface that emits a soothing, translucent, pink light when fitted with the 110VAC lighting fixture included. Some health enthusiasts have even reported on the positive ionizing properties created by the effect of the warmed halite on the surrounding air in the room.
