Accuracy
Reviewed By: Stephen  (Adeliade Australia, SOuth Australia)
I bought my Skyscout to compliment my 8' reflector telescope in finding deepspace objects. Since getting the device Ive used it every available moment and in doing so I've noticed some accuracy problems. Also I've found the auto shutoff feature a problem as I will place the unit to aquire a GPS fix and on returning find it has switched itself off (this is a persistant and annoying feature I woujld like to switch off) - but more of a problem are the accuracy problems - I can and I expect anyone can ask the skyscout to Identify a bright object and then immediately ask it to locate the same object - if the object is anythig other than straight up the difference can be up to 5-10 degrees - also near my house the error is greater although the magnet warning is not displayed as it is closer to or inside the house - I have the latest updates as of this date and any solution to this accuracy would greatly enhance my fast developing love for my new addition to my astronomy toolkit - Thank you in anticipation of updating the firmware to allow extending or shutoff of the autoshutdown - thanks - SPQ nb- all tests were done in an open field 100mtrs from anythig man made

nice gadget
Reviewed By: John (Blacksburg, Virginia)
The Skyscout cleverly exploits GPS technology along with the latest advances in magnetic field/acceleration sensors. A great gadget. My only complaint is that Celestron is less than candid about it's accuracy...certain celestial objects may be several degrees from the boresight of the device. Celestron claims that the unit is in spec if the targeted object is "within the outer ring of the viewfinder". Well, that's fine...except that the field of view of the outer ring depends strongly on how closely the unit is held from the face. So, technically, 5-10 degrees off is okay among friends. I still enjoy my Skyscout, despite the accuracy problems.
