A science class staple, the Van de Graaf generator is an electrostatic machine that uses a moving belt to accumulate very high voltages on a hollow metal globe. Named after the American physicist of the same name, this generator can be used to perform electrostatic experiments on a spectacular scale.
This generator relies on high quality rugged construction for its long life and has a 10” diameter metal sphere. The column between the base and sphere that houses the belt is clear lucite; the generator comes with one extra belt.
The variable speed motor can be used to vary the rate of charge build-up and has a control knob on the base of the generator, near the on/off switch. Designed for operation on 120V, ac, with a three wire grounded cord, it is capable of generating sparks 8” –10” long!
