Edmund's Faceted Gemstones
The traditional birthstone for January, garnet was so named by the ancient Greeks because its color reminded them of pomegranate seeds (“granatum”). Garnet occurs in a rainbow of colors, but deep, transparent, red garnets are often selected for use as gemstones.
Garnet has been used in jewelry since as early as 3100 B.C. in Egypt. It is a colorful, affordable, and durable gemstone.
