Woolly Mammoth Hair Acrylic Display Block

A specimen of mythic proportions, this wooly mammoth hair has been preserved over tens of thousands of years. Mammoths and their relatives, the mastodons, are widely considered to be an iconic example of an extinct Ice Age mammal. Related to the Asian elephant, these massive creatures were hard to miss in the world in which they lived, some 10,000 years ago. Sporting long curved tusks and a covering of long hair, they dotted the landscape in a variety of locations.

When mammoths died, they were sometimes preserved by the cold, frozen environment and mummified. When their remains were uncovered, they had the appearance of recently dying and may have even looked "fresh". Even their hair was perfectly preserved.

This unique conversation piece contains the actual hairs of a mammoth uncovered in the ice and snow of Siberia and protected between sheets of clear acrylic for safe handling and display.
