Bronze Pocket Sextant

Imagine the world before GPS!

Traditionally used to determine one’s latitude by measuring the altitude of a celestial object above the horizon, the sextant could be considered the GPS of the age of nautical travel.

A rare collector’s item, this intricately detailed pocket sextant is modeled after those used by many Victorian explorers and surveyors and would look at home on any library shelf or make a stylish statement on any desk – a great gift for your favorite nautical buff!

Not just a décor object, this sextant also offers limited functionality of defining the angle of the sun and stars with the horizon, as a form of navigation and survey and includes a sextant defined latitude and clock longitude.

This historical replica is not manufactured precisely enough to be used for actual nautical navigation.

Size: 4 1/2"W x 4 1/2"H x 2 1/2"D.

Not as pictured

Although it is a nice looking instrument, it does not function at all. The eyepiece does not line up with the half mirrored glass. They appear to line up in the picture, but they do not in the real item. I am very disappointed with the item. The description says it is not accurate for navigation but it does function, but that is not true.

Misleading description and photo
Reviewed By: Michael (Orleans, Indiana)
I received one of these AM Bronze Pocket Sextants as a gift. They are shiny and pretty but are in no way constructed like the working sextant they imitate. The sextant shown in the photo is apparently not the same as the one I received. I would be embarrassed to show this sextant to my surveyor friends.
