How Does a Single Shape Change So Dramatically when Viewed from a Different Face?!?
Reviewed By:
Tony (Seattle, WA)
I turn the cube and watch the X-axis view change to the Y-axis view or the Z-axis view and I can’t see how one becomes the other, let alone how a single shape can have 3 such different and beautiful faces. I first read about Bathsheba, a mathematician who became an artist, in Make magazine and bought this piece.
I am captivated by not only the beauty, and it is beautiful, but even more that slowly turning it in my hands, I STILL can't imagine how what I see through one face becomes what I see in the next. I might as well be looking at pictures of a fern, Mars and a school of fish. I have never before held a 3-D shape, unable to see how the view from the top becomes the view from the front. Everyone who picks it up has the same reaction¯the little shake of the head and a sentence that just trails off, abandoned. I've since bought several other of her pieces, including some of her printed metal ones, yet this one will always be my favorite. Buy this, or get someone to buy it for you. It's stunning.

My own little microcosm

The sculpture itself is very fine, almost ethereal looking, encased in a rather heavy glass cube.

Cool crystal

I have an interest in string theory and the 10 dimensional universe and this crystal sits on my desk on the light base with a black background and looks superb. I stack the galaxy and DNA crystals on top of it and for me it represents everything.
